Xbox Live Subscriptions & Points Get Price Drops (on Amazon)

Amazon.com has lowered the prices on Xbox Live subscriptions and Microsoft points. A 12-month subscription for Xbox Live previously sold for $49.99 USD, and now sells for $38.96 on Amazon. Likewise, 1,600 MS points previous went for $19.99 and now sells at $15.97.

Microsoft slashed prices on the Xbox 360 console, across all models, earlier this month to spur sales. Microsoft saw increased sales last month with the price drop of the discontinued 20 GB model, and will likely see even more increases due to this month’s console price drop. It would appear that a price drop on Xbox Live services may be in tune with these earlier moves.

While this does signify something exciting, we also have to wonder if this is really a retail-wide move, or something Amazon specific. The odd denominations ($15.97?) lead us to believe this more like some sort of sale than definitive price cuts, but we could be wrong.

There is no word yet on whether or not the major brick and mortar retailers will also see this price decrease, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more. For now, if you’re in need of some MS points or a renewal on your XBL subscription, hit up Amazon.com.
